Our Purpose
The Speyside Community Car Share Scheme aims to promote the welfare and relieve the needs of those in the community who are socially isolated by reasons of age, infirmity or disability through the provision of a volunteer-based transport service.
If you, a family member or friend have a transportation need and meet our membership requirements as outlined in our 'Membership' section, then we will endeavour to provide an affordable solution for you.
About Us
Our drivers, telephonists and committee members are all volunteers who give up their free time to ensure that our members are able to secure transport when required. Last year they collectively donated 5,517 hours to the Scheme enabling us to undertake 3,704 journeys to help our members. We currently have 4 volunteer telephonists and 21 volunteer drivers who support members within a c.600 square mile area (shown to the right), and over 55% of our journeys are to medical appointments. However we also assist with shopping trips, hairdresser appointments and enabling people to access local amenities and make social visits to clubs or to see family or friends.
In the last 7 years our mileage has risen from 16,940 (2019) to 56,777 (2025) and we currently have 535 members with 21volunteer drivers to cover the whole area of around 600 square miles. The higher mileage has led to a significant increase in our costs and it has been 15 years since we made any changes to our fares. We have now had to address this issue to remain viable so as of 1st April 2026 our members’ mileage rate will increase.
All one-way journeys for any purpose will be charged at 45p per mile. For return journeys which are solely medically related (e.g. Hospital, Doctor, Dentist, Optician, Physiotherapist etc.) the cost will be 35p per mile. All other return journeys will be 45p per mile and our minimum fare rate will be increased from £3 to £4.
Where We Operate
We are proud to serve the community of the Moray Council Ward of Speyside/Glenlivet; the most rural within Moray. With rurality brings transportation challenges, so The Scheme is open to residents within the boundary defined below, including the shaded green area at the bottom of the map which denotes the stunning Cairngorm National Park.
We have been a registered charity (SC035246) since 2004, and
eligibility to access our service is by previously approved membership
Our Donors
To enable the continuation of the service, the majority of our funding is raised through charitable trusts, local fund raising events and donations, and we are always appreciative of the many types of support we receive from within the communities that we serve.
The Speyside Community Car Share Scheme is proud to be supported by the following organisations, and thankful for their financial assistance:
